Adventure Training Camp [21-23 May 2010]

The camp was indeed tough and tiring. It tested us, it seemed as an obstacle to many of us even before we were there. The camp led us out of our comfort zones that were often taken for granted. Through this camp, I reflected and learnt much. Firstly, the camp was held at Pulau Ubin, an island off Singapore. The conditions at the campsite were not at all fantastic, but we knew that this was a training camp; hence there was nothing much we could do about it. At the camp, we did many push-ups. Yes, it indeed strengthened our muscles and it boost our resilience level too. At many times, we wanted to give up because we were overwhelmed with fatigue. However, we had to persevere on. Through this camp, a thought came into my mind: We cant't change the situation that we're in because many times, we just simply cannot control the things that are happening around us. Despite the fact, we can change our attitude towards the situation. By changing our attitudes towards it, things suprisingly change. The feeling that is inside you does change as well. Many times, we are afraid that we may fail. But what I've realised was, the greatest enemy of all times, is never the obstacles, never the tough situations nor the untrusting people around us, but it is ourselves. It has all along been us. Therefore, to overcome greater heights, we must first overcome and outrun ourselves.
